The Holy Empire of Zataria (Standard Zatari: "Shassa Shahayathi Spande a Za'tari"/Classical Valirian: "Xsassa Xsayathitari Spanta ye Za'tari") is a large, conglomerated Federal union of Zatarian monarchies. It is bordered on the north by Shonashikal and Rawak Stov, on the south by OTHER-NATION, by the east by OTHER-NATION. The Empire covers approximately 858,800 square kilometers and has an estimated population of 73.4 Million. Officially, the Empire is comprised of 3 semi-hereditary monarchies (Valiria, Khumbana, and Dharistan), one theocratic absolute monarchy (The Empire Proper), 2 Imperial Viceroyalties (Kemora and Ankannala), and 2 Imperial Territories (Qaasim and Asceron). Known, historically, for its distinctive national religion, the Zanthist Church and in more modern times for its role in the East Mazarine Coalition, and a leading power across Shrivala.

Environment[edit | edit source]

The climate and general environment of Zataria, as well as Kemora, were initially described by explorer ____ in _____ as โ€œthe sheer envisioning of pure paradise made tangible. Clear, fresh waters of emerald green and sapphire blue, with reefs stretching as far as the eye could see, and masses of fish of every conceivable color. The lands are bordered by beaches of the brightest and softest white sand, and the trees hang heavy with thick, ripe tropical fruits.โ€

As Tourism makes an enormous impact on the economy of the Holy Empire, conservation of the pristine natural environment, especially along the coast, has always held a place of supreme importance. Despite the numerous early setbacks in their cooperation, even as far back as 1685 the Zatari Union of Ecological Conservationists was an active participant at the local and national level of most of the Zatari Imperial prdecessor states. This long-standing and deeply-ingrained social, economic, and in many cases spiritual desire to conserve the environment has led to a severe curbing of horizontal urban development, as well as a generally complex and stringent industrial atmosphere. The positive influence has been enormous successes in the field of luxury agriculture (spices, chemical reagents, cash crops, etc), aquaculture, and renewable energy development, most notable the Solar Island of Zadinta, a massive Tidal/Solar Power Generation Plant.

Politics and Government[edit | edit source]

Politics[edit | edit source]

The Holy Empire of Zataria is a Federation of one Hereditary Monarchy, three semi-hereditary Monarchies, and two Viceroyalties. It is governed, officially, by the Federal Parliament, though in reality that body is mostly consultative. The Imperial Cabinet, the officials and officers appointed by and beholden to the Holy Emperor, are the generally-accepted governing body of the Holy Empire. It has been repeatedly described by Sapient Rights Watch organizations as "autocratic," "brutally oppressive," and "stiflingly intolerant." Despite these assertions, the Holy Empire consistently maintains a high level of popularity among its voting population.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

The Zatari are a highly visually distinctive race of humans, who have been renowned throughout history for their naturally pleasing physique and features, their bronze skin and silver-white hair, and fondness for lustrous adornment. Initially gaining this fondness, it is believed, through the richness of early proto-Zatari Chief-Kings derived through the platinum and rhenium mines of the south, eventually the Zatari coastline become globally renowned for itโ€™s wealth of trade in precious metals, spices, and slaves.

In the modern time, Zatari are known for their physical attractiveness, natural charisma, joviality, and predilection for physical fitness, cosmetic appeal, and general rakishness and style. These traits, which many point to as โ€œunfair stereotypes, despite their positive connotations,โ€ do hold some measure of truth, and a disproportionately high number of Zatari can be found in careers as entertainers, diplomats, servicepersons, and other highly-personable professions. Easily distinguished by their physical features, which are the direct result of a strange and unique combination of dominant genes that, despite causing lightness of color, persist for several generations of offspring. Therefore, this bright, near-white hair is essentially uniform amongst Zatari, with only a select few displaying major variation. Due, however, to the extensive introduction of slave and trading populations throughout the 14th - 17th centuries, and since the re-popularization of Zatari tourism leading to further foreign population intrusion, most modern Zatari, especially those in the more developed, urban areas, display minor variations, such as off-colored roots or streaks of darker hair.

Language[edit | edit source]

Modern Standard Zatari is the current adaptation of the Zatari spoken and written language, derived immediately from Imperial Standard Zatari, and ultimately from Proto-Zatโ€™sadi through the Upper (also known as the Aristocratic [among Zatari Scholars] or Southern) Line, it is academically considered the natural Root language of the greater Zatโ€™adi Language family. This, of course, is historically opposed to the archaic divergent Sonashki Language Family to the north. Modern Standard Zatari is only superficially different, and barely auditorily distinguishable from Imperial Standard Zatari (which remains the most widely-spoken form outside the Holy Empire, mostly in the other EMC states).

A speaker of any Zatari language variant can be referred to as a "Zataphone."
