Miscegenation

Miscegenation, also called interbreeding, has two common definitions:

  • interspecies breeding: The marriage and/or reproduction between individuals or different sapient species. This is only possible between the Terrene races (ie. Humans and Elves), highly similar Zoic races (ie. two beast-races based on animals that are able to interbreed in real life), or between Hallanite races and/or Terrene races in highly specific circumstance (eg. Rori mating with Humans). The general rule in this situation is that child will be of the mother's species, with phenetic features from both, and a somewhat higher infant/mother mortality rate depending on the circumstances. There can be some special exceptions to this rule (e.g., Rori only having Rori children due to being all-female). Children of hybrids follow the same rule. How this sort of racial mixing is treated varies widely depending on time period, culture, and location.

  • Interracial breeding: The marriage or reproduction between races of the same species - eg, two humans, a Tzonaqi and an Istervani; or two elves, a Dark Elf and a Snow Elf. This is identical to inter-race reproduction in real life - eg, a black and white person - but dominant phenetic features can vary substantially depending on the specific race. This can also be treated wildly differently depending on the specific time period, culture, and location, but, as a general rule, isn't as controversial as interspecies reproduction.
